Elizabeth O. Stinson “Pat” 1918-2008. Our beautiful mother, Elizabeth O. “Pat” Stinson died peacefully on Sunday evening, May 25. Born December 18, 1918 to Walter Lee O’Malley and Elizabeth Frances Kyle O’Malley, she was raised in Salt Lake City, UT and attended St. Mary of the Wasatch. She married Orville R. “Brook” Stinson in Pendleton, OR on May 26, 1943 and raised their family in Boise, ID and Phoenix, AZ where she lived for over 50 years. A classical violinist, she performed with the Salt Lake City and Boise Civic Symphonies. Her love of reading and her work with her own children and grandchildren helped her recognize the need for patient teaching of people with dyslexia and moved her into a teaching career. In 1974, at the age of 56 she graduated with honors from ASU. She obtained her teaching certificate from St. Edwards University in Austin, TX and went on to teach at St. Louis the King for 6 years and St. Theresa for 9. She lived her deep religious convictions throughout her life, serving as a volunteer at Kino Institute, the Glendale Public Library and as a Eucharistic Minister to the infirmed for St. Raphael Parish. In retirement she loved to visit her children and grandchildren and fulfilled a lifelong dream of traveling throughout the United States and beyond. Her faith was the centerpiece from which she found true joy and the ability to move forward in spite of whatever challenge tipped its hand. She demonstrated time and again that possibility and desire work in tandem to create excitement and opportunity in one’s life, and that we could make things happen with belief in ourselves. She had a wonderfully positive disposition and delighted in the company of others. Her great passion for reading sustained her in recent years. Mom’s radiant smile shall shine in our hearts always. Her husband Brook, her beloved daughter Patricia Moss, her brother Leigh O’Malley, and her sister Marion Miller precede her in death. She is survived by her son Frank Stinson of Tempe, AZ, her daughters Elizabeth Stinson of Forrestville, CA, Barbara Stinson Lee Jack of Salt Lake City, UT, Joan Myzskowski Joe of Stoughton, WI, Kelly Stinson Mullens Jeffrey of Boise, ID; her son-in-law Wayne Moss Sr. Judy of Globe, AZ; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
