Edward “Ed” Gonzales, 78,
passed away February 28, 2009.
Born in Virden, New Mexico. Preceded in death by his loving parents and his wife Maxine Sims. Survived by son, Edward “Eddie”, sisters; Margaret Judd, Gloria Delgado, Cindy Alex Cruz, Frances Villa and nieces and nephews. Ed retired from U.S. Airways Arena and the US Army Reserve. He loved his roses, enjoyed his tropical fish and had a fascination for horses. He will be greatly missed for his gentle ways and his extraordinary kindness. Visitation 10:00 am, Friday, March 7, 2009 with Funeral Service at 11:00 am. At St. Jerome Catholic Church, 10815 N. 35th Avenue. Interment will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery.

Jeffrey H. Quinn “Quinny”, born March 16th, 1962 in Phoenix, Arizona passed away February 27th, 2009 at his residence for the last nine years, in Danbury, CT. Jeffrey is the son of Angelee Quinn of Phoenix and his late father, Jack D. Harrington. Surviving is a sister, Donna Rae Morrison and Husband Chad of California; a brother, James C. Quinn of Phoenix and a sister-in-law, Deidre Quinn also from Phoenix; a nephew and niece Matthew and Sarah Zimmer of California and a niece and nephew, Jaime and Justin Quinn of Phoenix, AZ. A dear and close friend, Michele Bates and her two children Samantha and Jessica, of White Plains, NY. Jeff attended Squaw Peak Elementary School District 1968-1976; Camelback High School 1976-1980 and received a golf scholarship to Scottsdale Community College 1981-1982. Jeff’s playing record in AZ was very impressionable. Junior Golf: ranked one of the top Junior Players 1976-1978. Camelback High School Varsity Golf Team: ranked most improved player 1976; ranked most valuable player of the year 1977. Scottsdale Community College: ranked 2nd top player 1981; placed 5th in top 50 individual players 1981; Team Captain 1982. He also played in several mini tours 1983-1984 finishing in the top ten. He was a golf professional at several golf clubs here in Arizona; Continental Country Club, Flagstaff, AZ; Arizona Biltmore Country Club, Phoenix, AZ and Phoenix Country Club, Phoenix, AZ. A resident of Danbury, CT the past nine years, he was a golf professional at Rockrimmon Country Club, CT, Mahopac Golf Club, NY, Ridgefield Golf Club, CT, Salem Golf Club, NY, where he was the current teaching professional; teaching juniors the game of golf. This was his passion and career. When he wasn’t teaching or playing golf, his passion turned to riding his Harley and was a member of the Danbury Hogs; well-known for all their charity work. A celebration of life service will take place on Saturday, April 4th, 2009 at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road at 2:00 pm. Following the Service, the family will receive friends at their home. Beverly Smoker Wolff

Beverly Smoker Wolff passed away on February 24, 2009 after her courageous battle with cancer surrounded by her husband, children, brother and sister. She was born on January 26, 1934 in Buffalo, New York. She was preceded in death by her parents Grace and William Maunz, sister Betty Smithson, brother Harold Maunz and her first husband Marion Smoker. She is survived by and is loved as mother of Mark, Jeffrey Mary, Philip, Deborah Tim Mullan and Kimberly Arik Michelson and her beloved husband Herbert. Beverly is Grandmother of Jessica Jim Engles, Melissa Bryan Kovalesky, Kevin, Michael, Stephen, Thomas and Claire Smoker, Katelyn, Connor, Victoria and Amanda Mullan, Jack, Ian and Sean Michelson; Great grandmother of Landen Kovalesky; sister of Charles Billie Maunz and Marilynn Prins; stepsister of Andrea Doug Adema; stepbrother of Don Nancy Rosenstiel; Aunt of Marjorie, Andrew and Lee Jamie Prins, Matt Melanie and Mark Maunz, Sandra, John and Beverly Smithson. Also survived by stepchildren Jan Bryan Cameron, Joe and Jacquie; step-grandchildren Ian and Eryn Cameron and Lauren Parker. She was a graduate of the University of Michigan, a member of St. Theresa Parish and Delta Zeta Sorority. Visitation 1:00-3:00 pm, Sunday, March 1st with a Rosary at 2:00 pm at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road. Funeral Mass Monday, March 2nd, 10:00 am, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 5045 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix. Interment will be at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Beverly Smoker Wolff Scholarship Fund at Xavier College Preparatory will be appreciated, 4710 N. 5th Street, Phoenix, 85012. She enjoyed her garden, loved the beach, favored a Gin and Tonic on the deck, cooking for family and friends and teaching kindergarten for over 30 years. Her family is grateful that Beverly felt comforted and well-cared for by her many wonderful doctors and nurses at Good Samaritan Hospital. She will be missed by many.

Voeller, Roy Robert
February 20, 1914 – February 24, 2009, son of Russian immigrant parents, Roy was born and raised in North Dakota. A self-made man, Roy owned and operated furniture stores in North Dakota. After moving his family to Phoenix, Arizona in l958, Roy owned and operated several motels in the Phoenix area. Roy is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Barbara and his son, Ron, at the age of 67. Roy is survived by his beloved wife of 13 years, Bernice Popp Voeller and six of his seven children; Rita Richard-deceased Flynn, Roger Andrea, Romain Patricia, Randall Regina, Roydavid and Reggie and Ron’s wife, Ginger; 17 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 5 of his fifteen siblings and countless nieces and nephews. Visitation 4:00-6:00 pm, Sunday, March 1, at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, March 2, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2312 E. Campbell Avenue. Interment will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery.

Huerta, Lazaro Lolo, 79, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, February 24, 2009. He worked for the City of Phoenix Housing Authority for over 32 years. Lolo was passionate about his family and had a zest for life and loved attending “car shows”. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Annie and his four children; Danny, Diahann, Roy and Susan. He also has five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He will be truly missed by all. We love you, Dad. Until we meet again, we thank you for the teachings of a family. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, on Saturday, February 28, with Visitation at 9:00 am and Rosary at 9:30 am. , at St. Mary’s Basilica, 231 N. 3rd Street, Phoenix. Interment will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery.

Hernandez, Joseph Alexander Alex 52, of Mesa peacefully passed away at his home on February 22, 2009 in the arms of his loving wife Diane. He was born on September 10, 1956 in Tempe, Arizona. Alex loved spending time with his family and loved to play his music with several bands in the Phoenix area. He was an amazing man who lived a wonderful, fulfilled life. He will be remembered as a strong, dedicated, independent, loving husband and father. He left behind his loving wife of 30 years, Diane, sons Christopher and Alexander and sister Lydia. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 am with Funeral Mass at 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 4, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1421 S. 12th Street. Jose J. Garcia, 88, of Show Low, AZ, died February 22, 2009 in the loving care of Sun Valley Hospice in Phoenix. He was born in Ajo, November 4, 1920. As a youth, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corp in Ajo and Prescott. He was a member of Ajo’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree. Jose was a WWII Veteran, serving in the US Army. He worked for 32 years for Phelps Dodge Mining Company as a Heavy Equipment Operator in Ajo; retiring to Show Low where he spent the past 26 years. He was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Show Low. Although he only attended the seventh grade, he loved reading. In his youth, he was an accomplished softball player. Jose was preceded in death by his loving daughter Barbara Garcia Starling; granddaughter Melissa Rodriguez of Tucson; grandson Joseph Starling; brother Henry; sister Velia; and his mother, Guadalupe, all of Phoenix. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Antonia of Show Low; sister Mary Theresa of Phoenix; sons Joe Chalia of Ajo; Arthur Roselie, Frank Lorene, Robert Terry, all of Phoenix; 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; and 2 great, great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm, Sunday, March 1, 2009 at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home. Funeral Mass 10:00 am, Monday, March 2, 2009, St. Catherine of Siena, 6200 S. Central Ave. Interment at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery. .
