Dr. Peter H. Nutley passed away in Phoenix, Arizona, on Wednesday, March 26, 2008. He was 65.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Nancy; his daughters, Jennifer Nutley MacLennan and Cynthia Nutley; his son-in-law, Grant; and his grandchildren, Logan, Meredith, Marissa, and Natasha. He also is survived by his beloved family in Chicago, Illinois, including his father, Peter H. Nutley Sr., and his sisters and brothers, Candy, Denny, Charles and Rosie, Mary and Debbie; his in-laws, Edward and Jean, Donna and Rex, and Janet and Joe; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Nutley.

Dr. Nutley opened his practice in 1974 and took great pride and pleasure in having practiced his art in Phoenix for more than 33 years. His practice thrived with the help of Cheryl and Stephanie, whom he held dear. Dr. Nutley was dedicated to his patients and to their care in his chosen field of Otolaryngology. He was honored to have been repeatedly named by his peers in local and national publications as one of the top physicians in Phoenix, including this year’s Phoenix Magazine. He served as a leader in the hospitals at which he practiced, holding such positions as Chief of Staff at Banner Good Samaritan, Chief of Otolaryngology at St Joseph’s Hospital, and Chief of Surgery and Chief of Staff at Humana.

He was proud of having served as an officer in the United States Army at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he was chief medical officer of Otolaryngology for the 82nd Airborne Unit and other companies.

Dr. Nutley’s greatest joy in life blossomed out of the family he created. He was a passionate food connoisseur, read voraciously, golfed competitively, and treasured bantering with his colleagues and friends about politics and religion. His life was defined by his devotion to his wife Nancy and his family.

Public visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 1st, at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 East Indian School Road, Phoenix. A public memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2nd, at Valley Presbyterian Church, 6947 East McDonald Drive, Paradise Valley, Arizona.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to The Ear Foundation of Arizona, 668 N. 44th St., Suite 300, Phoenix, AZ 85008, an organization dedicated to the prevention, detection and intervention of hearing loss.
