JOSEPH CECIL CONROY

Joseph Cecil Conroy, age 90, died November 4, 2008, in Phoenix, Arizona where he resided since 1947. Joseph is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty, daughters and son-in-laws JoBeth and Steve Mehen, New Meadows , Idaho, Dotti and Bob Brown, Paradise Valley, Arizona, and Vicki and Mike Brownewell, Houston, Texas. He is also survived by six grandsons, Sean and Rory Mehen, Justin and Angus Brown, and Michael and Matthew Brownewell and four great-grandchildren Wyatt, Wayne, Weston, and Adeline Brown. He is also survived by nephews and nieces who were very dear to their Uncle Joe. He was born September 13, 1918 in Belleville, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his Mother Rose, Father William and older siblings, Art and Ed Conroy, Ethel Schwartztrauber and Marie Yager. His love of plants and flowers began early with his first job at a greenhouse in Illinois at age 10. Later he served in the Army in World War II. After returning from service he and Betty were married on June 4, 1946 in Illinois. The next year they moved to Phoenix and together they started Conroy Wholesale Florist and Phoenix Greenhouses. He was very involved in many professional floral organizations, including the Arizona State Florist Association, Society of American Florists, Wholesale Florists and Floral Suppliers of America, Roses Inc. and the World Flower Council. He was active in the Catholic Church, and was a Knight of Columbus and a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher. Joe won the “Good Joe” award from St. Joseph Hospital. He enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends, loved traveling the world with Betty and was known for his zest for life and sense of humor. He will be truly missed by his family, friends, and most of all his bride of 62 years, Betty. Visitation 4:00 -6:00 PM, Sunday, November 9, with a Rosary at 6:00 PM at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, November 10, at St. Mary’s Basilica, 231 North 3rd Street. Interment St. Francis Catholic Cemetery. In Lieu of Donations the family requests: You spread Joe’s Love of Flowers and Send One of Your Loved Family Members a Bouquet from a local Florist in your area. Just to Say it With Flowers.
