Lois Wolcott Manning
Passed away in Scottsdale, AZ on April 26, 2009 at the age of 91. Lois was born February 14, 1918 at her Grandmother Dora’s boarding house in Brooklyn, NY. Her parents were George Van de Bise Catuna and Georgia Haynes Wolcott. Lois attended Brooklyn Friends School, Northport High School and attended Hofstra University, Hempsted, NY the year it first opened 1935. She married John Robert Manning, Sr., in l941 in Elizabethtown, NJ and they later relocated to Arizona. Lois began her career at Trinity Church in Manhattan, NY and later retired from the State of Arizona where she held positions at the Employment Security Commission later known as DES. She introduced her descendants to past generations through her dedicated research and analysis of her family’s genealogy. Lois was preceded in death by her husband John Robert Manning, Sr., daughter June Manning Shaw, son-in-law Paul Shaw and grandson Bill Sershon. She is survived by her children Joan Philip Crowley, John Donna Manning, Jr., Jacqueline Sanchez, Judith Brian Hatton, Richard Karen Slocum, Mark Slocum, Carol Gabriel Basteris, Lawrence Lisa Shaw, M.D., Bruce Shaw, Steve Merri Shaw, grandchildren Gina Doug Hayes, Larry Sershon, Anna Crowley, Megan Jeff Cuccia, Jason Sarah Sanchez, Eric Beth Sanchez, Dan Hatton, David Wendy Sanchez, Erin Crowley, Vincent Sanchez, Jackson Hatton, Joey Hatton, Annabelle Hatton, Chrissey Scott, Jonathan, David and Lizy Revell, Renee Slocum, Alex Basteris, Danny Basteris, Christopher Basteris, Brian Shaw, Jeff Shaw, Kayla Shaw, Dillon Shaw, Tracy Shaw, Danny Shaw, Adam Shaw, Heather Guillermo Shaw-Flores, great-grandchildren Alexis Hayes, Emily Hayes, Brodey Sanchez, Hailey Hayes, Kylee Sanchez, Sammy Cuccia, Nathen Sanchez and Grace Cuccia. A Memorial Service honoring Lois’ life will be held on Sunday, May 3 at 1:00 P.M. at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix.
