MURRAY THOMAS GIBSON

Murray Thomas Gibson, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on November 26, 2008. Born in Yankton, SD in 1928, he graduated from Yankton High School where he played as an all-state basketball player. He obtained his law degree from Stanford University and pursued his passion for the law as a corporate attorney in California and Chicago before bringing his expertise to St. Vincent De Paul’s Oznam Manor. He felt a deep commitment to his community at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, where he served as a lector, sacristan, Eucharastic Minister and usher. For over 16 years, Murray met weekly with his Cursillo group. He passed his love of reading on to his family and delighted in following his grandson, Colin’s high school and college basketball career. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lois and his daughters, Jane Willemsen and her husband Wayne of Walnut Creek, CA and Kate Lewis and her husband Nathan of Phoenix, AZ., as well as his grandsons, Colin Murray, Joshua Thomas and William Arthur. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Joan Marie. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2008 from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M., at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd., Phoenix. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 5, 2008 at 10:30 A.M., at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2312 E, Campbell Ave, Phoenix, AZ., In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Oznam Manor, 1730 E. Monroe St., Phoenix, AZ 85034
