Vera R Mandigo

In Memorial

Vera Ann Mandigo, 90, went to our Lord on Thursday, January 1, 2009 surrounded by her family. She is survived by her 2 children and their spouses; daughter Nicolette Fred Frame, son James Susan, 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Vera was born in Eden, South Dakota in 1918, the tenth of eleven children. She worked to obtain a scholarship to attend St. Margaret’s Academy in Minneapolis, MN. In 1943, Vera married her beloved Army Staff Sgt. Nicholas in Toledo, OH. They finally settled in Phoenix, AZ in 1950, where they built their first home block by block and raised their family.
Vera was an active member of St. Agnes Sodality, St. Mary’s High School Mom’s Club and a fantastic fund raiser for St. Agnes Parish with her famous spaghetti dinner, card parties and the doll booth. She raised and cared for several children, and loved her family deeply. And oh how she loved football, especially our St. Mary’s Friday Knights!
Vera was an exceptional lady. She was sharp, witty, hard working and always ready to help. She has made a lasting impression on all who had the opportunity to know her.
In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Foundation www.stjude.org or to a charity of your choice in Vera’s memory.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 6 at 6:00 P.M., Rosary to follow at 7:00 P.M. at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd., Phoenix. Graveside Service at 10:00am, January 7, 2009 at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery.
