Samuel Torres Alcantar

December 6, 2008 Leave A Condolence

Samuel

Samuel Torres Alcantar, was called to the heavens above on December 6, 2008. He was the youngest son of Lupe and Pedro Alcantar, born on December 8, 1935 in Kingsville, Texas. He is survived by his wife ‘the love of his life’ Yolanda Altamirano, his only brother Elias Alcantar Corrie, his sister Frances Padilla, children Jesse L. Lopez, Yvonne “Kissie” M. Reyna, JoAnne Alcantar Ramon, Peter S. Alcantar Denise, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. His children were the treasure of his life and he lived every moment for them. Sammy was from an era when a handshake was his word and bond, and his friendship was everlasting. In spite of declining health, he never lost his enthusiasm and joy for life. Those who knew him, loved him and his wonderful sense of humor and eagerness to help those around him. He was a 12 year Veteran of the US Army National Guard and the owner of Sam’s Body Shop since 1973 retired in 2003. Sammy was a talented guitar player in his younger days and played in a group named Combo Latinos, that played in the local bars of downtown Phoenix, Glendale, & Tempe. Even though he will be truly missed by his family and friends, he will not be alone, he joins his sisters Severita Cadriel, Petra Bazan, Nuevas Bazan, and Juanita Hernandez in Heaven. Services will be held at Abundant Life Center, 3535 North 63rd Avenue, Phoenix, AZ. Thursday, December 11 at 7:00 pm and Friday, December 12 at 9:00 am following burial at St. Frances Cemetery, 2033 North 48th Street, Phoenix, AZ.
Arrangements are under the direction of Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home.
