
Tony Liga was a long time resident and successful business owner in Phoenix. Born in 1911, Tony came to Phoenix in 1939 from Sicily by way of Waukegan, Illinois. He started Tony’s Shoe Repair in the Valley in 1940 and at one time had 8 shops. He operated Tony’s Shoe Repair until retirement in 1982 at which time, he turned over operations to his sons. Tony married his late wife, Rose, in 1945 and had two sons, James and Michael. He was a loving husband to Rose for 62 years and a devoted father. Outside of business, Tony had a variety of interests such as, construction, hunting, and fishing. He is survived by his sons, James and wife Marianne, Michael and wife Kendall, grandchildren, Michelle, Christopher and wife Emily, and Michael and wife Angela, step grandchildren, Jennifer and Stephanie and husband Ben, great grandchildren, Isabela and Gabriel, step great grandchildren, Alyssa, Alexis, Kaitlyn, Anna and Brooke. He is also survived by two sisters, Antonette Toni Parker and Ann Roth Carrick. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00pm, with Rosary at 7:00pm, Friday, November 28, at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home. Funeral Mass at 10:30am, Saturday, November 29, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 4715 North Central Avenue. Interment at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Vincent de Paul Society, P. O. Box 13600, Phoenix, 85002.
