BERENS, MATTHEW MYER

September 1, 2015 13 Condolences

BERENS,

Matthew Myer Berens, age 22, from Tempe, Arizona, beloved son, brother, grandson, cousin and friend was taken suddenly from his family on August 28, 2015.  Matthew was an entrepreneur in everything that he did, from buying ATV’s to mobile homes. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hiking, snowboarding, fishing and camping. He loved spending time with his brother, Taylor, on their ski trips, but the greatest joys were their fishing and camping adventures!  These adventures would be from up North on a lake with the pop-up tent or the local lake less than 100 yards away. Matthew loved the many hikes, chess games and watching movies with his father and also loved spending time at his mother’s home talking, cooking, helping her around the house and playing with his dog, Coco.  Matthew would regularly assist his grandmother, Phyllis, at her home in Scottsdale.  Matthew’s heart shined for others, his laughter was contagious and his giving was endless.  Matthew brought so much joy and laughter to so many people and his smile will be truly missed.  Matthew is survived by his mother Tammera Landa, father Robert Berens (Frances Ducar), brothers Taylor Berens, Dallas, Dillan, Dakota Ducar and sister, Becky Ducar.  Grandparents Phyllis, David, Judi, Tommy, Dick and Chris and Jack and Rebecca. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM with a Prayer Service from 7:00- 8:00 PM, Friday, September 4, 2015 at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home. Interment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery.

    Matty,

The world is a far better place because you were in it – I only wish your stay had been longer. I will forever see that little boy smile you wore, and that mischievous twinkle that shone in your eyes. May you find great joy in heaven sweet boy.

I was so saddened to hear about Matt. I will always remember him as a delightful young man who always had a smile on his face and who would do anything for anyone. I was so lucky to have known him and to have seen his kindness, his warmth, and his wonderful nature. The world is a sadder place.

My sincerest condolences go out to the Berens family. I’m sorry I am unable to attend Matt’s services, but please know that my thoughts are with you in this difficult time. I got to know Matt while he worked at LBBS. He was always good for a light moment whether we were chit chatting about movies, what was for lunch, or what stock he was trading. I would frequently walk in on Matt and Bob in the breakroom enjoying lunch together, and it was impressive to see what a great relationship they shared. There were plenty of times Matt would assist me on projects when he could have easily said no, but anyone who had the opportunity to know Matt would know that would be unlike him. He was a kind, gentle soul who gave of himself effortlessly. He will be deeply missed for this, his sweet smile, and all the numerous positive attributes he exhibited. What a loss…RIP, Matt.
