Bette B. Nehring entered into the fullness of Eternal Life on February 5, 2008 at the age of 76, peacefully, at home with her family. She was the loving wife of Roland “Rollie” Nehring for 44 years. Her parents Ingwald and Ella Loberg and two sisters and a brother predeceased her and she is survived by her sisters Mary Donald Buesing and Theodora Clinton Eckstrom and many other relatives. Betsy fought a brave battle for months to regain her health after two serious operations. She was born February 16, 1931 in Minneapolis and graduated from the University of Minnesota whereupon she became an officer in the U.S. Navy. She married her former attorney, Roland, on January 31, 1964. In August 1967 Betsy and Rollie moved to Phoenix to give birth to Arizona Telephone Company which eventually brought initial modern telephone service to ten large Arizona rural areas. She became Executive V-P responsible for day-to-day operations. Betsy left an indelible mark on her employees, customers, and friends in the telecommunications industry in Arizona and throughout the U.S. She was a special person and a positive force with a sparkle in her eye. Her intelligence, grit, humor, sentimentality, and delightful directness combined to form an unlimited love for her husband and “extended family” relations with relatives and friends which left undeniable marks on their lives. The world is poorer and Heaven richer with her passing. A Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 9th, at Mount Claret Retreat Center at the southern base of her cherished Camelback Mountain, 4633 N. 54th St., Phoenix, AZ 85018. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Betsy’s memory may be sent to Mount Claret Retreat Center – For Benefit of the Cottage Restoration Project. Arrangements have been entrusted to Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85018.
