
Bonnie C. “Jack” Hagar, 83, born in Hamlin, Texas on October 15, 1924. On February 4, 2008, a dear husband, stepfather, and uncle, passed away at home in Phoenix, AZ. A lifelong country music lover, he is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Evelyn McNally Hagar; stepdaughters Patricia Welch, Joyce Betz Charlie, Kathi Fees, Eileen McNally, Mary McNally, Joan Juwig, and Maureen Hainlen Jon, and stepsons Michael McNally, Daniel McNally, and Brian McNally; stepchildren from his first marriage, Hazel Walker of Tonto Basin, AZ, Fred Long of Chandler, AZ, and Alfred Long, Veta Lamb, and Ella Mae Toucher, all of Owensboro, KY; 44 grandchildren, numberous great-grandchildren and his loving pet cat Sheba. Jack was predeceased by parents John and Bertha Hagar, sisters Neva Trotter, Lira Pugh, brothers Loy and Bender Hagar, and first wife Mary Ellen Long Hagar. Jack was a retired truck driver, and a member of Local 104. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre with the Red Arrow Division of the 132nd Infantry. He was awarded 4 Bronze Stars, having served in New Guinea, the Philippine liberation, and the occupation of Japan. Upon his retirement, Jack and Evelyn operated A Balloon-A-Faire for 10 years, specializing in balloon bouquets and balloon decorations. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to “Tennies From Heaven”, a non-profit program providing new shoes to school age children from families who consider new shoes a luxury. The program was established in memory of Steven Welch, Jack’s grandson who was killed by a drunk driver. Contributions may be mailed to: Tennies From Heaven, P.O. Viewing and services are being held at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd., on Friday, February 8th, from 10:00 A.M. – 12 Noon, with services at 12 Noon. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery.
