Dr. Boyd Edwards Hayward, retired Valley physician, passed away peacefully, in his home with his wife and family present, on September 2nd, 2009. Born in Logan, Utah October 30th, 1921, Dr. Hayward attended Utah State University for undergraduate studies, graduated Pre-Med from University of Chicago, and earned his Medical Degree from Washington University in St. Louis, MO. In addition to enjoying his practice for over thirty years with his patients in Phoenix, he was involved with medical international community services in Thailand, Africa and Latin America. Boyd was the founder of the Phoenix Chapter of the Amigos de las Americas in 1970; and, as Medical Director of Amigos, he prepared students to volunteer in rural Central and South America. Once retired, he enjoyed the study of Mesopotamian Archaeology in Iran, Iraq, and Egypt. Boyd was preceded in death by his sister Frances Hayward Tippets, of Utah. He is survived by his sister, Marian Hayward Hutchinson, his wife, Mireya Hayward, his three children, Anne Zalak, Becky Coen, Dow Terry, step-children Tom Wedell, Beverly, Noily, Lydia & Lisa Ehlenberger, 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many wonderful family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at Whitney & Murphy, 4800 E Indian School Road, Phoenix, AZ 85018, on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to his lifetime passion, Amigos de las Americas, Phoenix Chapter, at P.O. Box 17506, Phoenix, AZ 85011-0506. Burial will be at Paris Cemetery, in Paris, Idaho at Boyd
