Helene Brandenberger, 85, of the Valley of the Sun, was born in Paris, Kentucky to Mary Soule and Herbert Thomas Sledd, January 2nd, 1930. Helene’s parents moved from Kentucky to Arizona for her mother’s health and Helene and her siblings followed when she was about six. Her father was a Federal Housing Manager and the family moved frequently. Helene graduated from Arizona’s Miami High School in 1947. Immediately after, Helene attended Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing where she graduated. During these nursing school years she made many friends, some of whom would remain close for over 65 years. It was also during this time that she met Jimmy Brandenberger who became her husband of 51 years. Helene worked at Saint Joseph’s Hospital for 43 years, receiving multiple recognitions including Employee of The Year. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by brothers Herbert D. Sledd (Louise), Collis B. Sledd (Margaret Teesdale), and sister Soule T. Borrello, children, Karl Brandenberger (Carolyn), Claudia McDowell, grandchildren, Heather, Mary, Thomas and Laura and great grandchildren, Drew, Taylor and Ethan. Her friends, family and working associates described her as a devoted caretaker, loving mother, and deeply compassionate woman. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix.
