
Our beloved mother, Kathryn (Kay) Jackson Fahys Brown, passed away on May 11, 2012 at the age of 86, surrounded by her loving daughters. Kay graced so many loves with her caring and compassionate spirit and will be greatly missed. She was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother who was adored by her family and friends but also by the many people whose lives she touched. Kay was born November 25, 1925 in New York city, New York and was the youngest of three sisters. She was a graduate of Pratt Institute and OCornell Nursing School in New York City. She met her husband, Dr. Lee B. Brown, at New York Hospital while she was working as a nurse and Lee ws a medical resident. They were married on March 5, 1949 in New York City. In 1960, Kay and Lee moved to Arizona where Lee became a well-known heart surgeon. Kay loved a fulfilled life raising her four daughters and was actively involved in their lives and in the lives of their friends. Kay participated in their school activities and supported their hobbies of horseback riding and tennis. The home she and her husband designed on Royal Palm Circle , affectionately known as the “Brown Compound”, was the hub of gtherings for family and friends. Additionally Kay enjoyed painting, playing tennis and bridge with her friends, and was an avid animal lover. Kay’s last address was the home of her daughter, Carol Stephens. Kay also participated in numerous community organizations. She was involved in the formation of the Crisis Nursery during its early years of fund raising events. She was a board member of the Arizona Horse Exhibitors Association and was the Chairperson of the Scottsdale Heart Committee in the 1960’s. Kay is predeceased by her husband Dr. Lee B. Brown; her parents, George and Kathryn Fahys; and her sisters, Barbara King and Beatrice Fischer. She is survived by her daughters, Kathryn Haugen, Patricia Bley, Holly Burns, and Carol Stephens; her grandchildren, Caroline Haugen Zunke, Clayton Haugen, Lyndsey Bley Genereux, Crystal Bley, Kathryn (Katie) Burns, and Cooper Burns; sons-in-law, Paul Haugen, Michael Bley, and Dave Stephens. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 5:00pm at Christ Church Lutheran located at 3901 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix.
