Mary F. Burns, nee: Scannell passed on December 10, 2016, she was 92 years old. Preceding her in death were her husband, Thomas P. Burns, Sr. to whom she was married for 65 years; her parents Charles and Catherine Scannell; her brother, James Scannell, and granddaughter, Kelly Ann Burns. She was the Mother of seven children: Kathleen Burns Lee (Richard), Thomas Burns, Jr. (Mary Ellen); Robert Burns, Lawrence Burns (Janet), Charles Burns (Sandi), John Burns (Laurie) and James Burns (Lisa) and special friend Claudia Weglarz Burns. Loving Grandmother of 18, and Great Grandmother of 16. Mary was extremely fond of and close to her niece and nephews; Jack Dunne (Joan), Tom (Jeanne), Jim (Mary Jo), and Patricia Moran (John). Born and raised in Chicago, she lived most of her life there before moving to Arizona 8 years ago. She was a voracious reader enjoying multiple genres but preferring mysteries. She loved puzzles, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, M.A.S.H. reruns, and visiting tea shops for high tea. Her smile would light up a room. Her wit and wisdom will continue to sustain us throughout our lives. She was a petite woman with a big heart that she willingly shared with both family and friends throughout the years. She would see the good in everyone and encouraged her children and grandchildren to do the same. Viewing will take place at Brophy College Preparatory Chapel 4701 N. Central Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85012 on Saturday, December 17, 2016 from 9:00-10:00 am with a Celebration of Life service to follow. Inurnment will take place on December 20, 2016 at 11:00 am at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona joining her beloved husband, Tom.
