Burton Emil Pierce, 68, passed away on April 7, 2008 after seven years of battling the effects of a stroke. Burt was born to Ida and Stanley Pierce on February 13, 1940 in Sault Township, Koochiching County, Minnesota. He was the second child of eight and was well known in his community as a mischievous boy with a fun-loving spirit of adventure! He graduated from Falls High School International Falls, MN. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1958 and served aboard the USS Mattabesset. In 1964, Burt married Wanda Wills of Phoenix, Arizona. They resided in International Falls until shortly after the birth of their first daughter, Kelly. They moved to Phoenix and had three more children: Kristine, John and Anne. Burt worked as a Wood Product Specialist for Arizona Public Service for 20 years. His passions in life involved hunting and fishing with his buddies, camping with his family, dog sledding and especially a good round of golf. He had a special relationship with his daughter Kelly, her husband Joe Maguire, and their three daughters Hannah, Haley and Heather visiting them at the various locations the military sent them. His daughter Kristine and her husband Rick DeBrock were invaluable in their combined loving sacrifices in caring for Burt. Burt enjoyed attending D-Backs games with their son Pierce. Burt thoroughly enjoyed surprising his son John and his wife Natalie Berchelmann in Telluride where he would spend an afternoon in the Rockies. Burt loved spending time with his youngest daughter Anne and her husband Tom Sanford along with their four boys, Zach, Aidan, Benjamin Pierce and William Thomas. Burt was fortunate to have had the pleasure of living with Anne and her family for 9 months. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Ida; his brothers Rodney, Stanley Jr. and Carter; his sister Phyllis and his beloved niece Mary Elizabeth. Along with his children and grandchildren, he is survived by his brother Gene Judy, and sisters, Gayle George Ritola and Janie Paul Silvers. Burt was a loving and outspoken man and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A service and reception will be held at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix, AZ on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at 5:00 P.M.
