Betty Lou Campbell, November 18, 1927—November 23, 2010

The transition from life to death is difficult for the one who is dying as much as it is for those who are left behind. Knowing ahead of time when that time has come is a grace that can allow the one who is dying to be at peace and can also afford loved ones a chance to say their goodbyes and be with them as they enter into that special place God has waiting for them.

As Betty listened to her son tell her there was nothing more the doctors could do, she smiled and said, “It’s ok, I have lived a good life. Would you hold my hand?” She died the following evening surrounded by family.

Despite the heartaches that are a part of every life, Betty lived a good life because she loved and she was loved in return.

A native of Evansville, Indiana she was preceded in death by her husband Michael, two sons: Michael and Ralph Campbell, one daughter: Julianne Boyd and two grandsons: Adam Boyd and Roy Gibson.

She is survived by her oldest daughter: Sister Linda Campbell, OSB and two sons: James and Jeffrey Campbell. She is loved by 14 surviving grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren. She was anxiously awaiting the arrival of 3 additional great, great grandchildren.

Funeral Service for Betty Campbell will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Monastery at 8502 W. Pinchot Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona 85037. Visitation will be on Wednesday December 8th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm and the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 7:00 pm. The Rite of Committal will be held privately for the family on Thursday December 9th at Holy Cross Cemetery in Phoenix.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Monastery, 8502 W. Pinchott Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85037 in honor of Betty Campbell.

Ive only known Ms. Campbell too short a time. What I will remember with a smile is her standing by the pillar as we left the chapel, holding a basket collecting dollars to hopefully buy a winning lottery ticket, which I am sure it would be to pay the mortgage on the Monastary, well, ms. Betty, you have an “in” now, maybe we canget a winner. My prayers to her family. Jennie

Dear Sr. Linda,
Words seem so inadequate at a time like this. Yet, it is the song of love in our hearts that sets the tune of our deep faith in God. I join so many others in asking the good Lord to hold you ever so close and dry your tears. May the ache in your heart be gently replaced by all the fond memories of your mom. She was a great woman. After all she raised you and that was a beautiful accompliahment.
In peace and prayer,

Sister Barbara Ann
