CANEZ, LUISA JO

February 8, 2023 5 Condolences

Luisa Canez prayer card

Luisa Jo Canez, 40, of Phoenix, passed away February 6, 2023 in her home.

Luisa, the daughter of David and Louella (Güerra) Canez, was born December 23, 1982 in Phoenix Arizona. Luisa was blessed with a large and loving family of six siblings, 17 nieces and nephews and 3 great nieces and nephews. On March 14, 2020 Luisa married her best friend and love of her life Ruben Garcia with their two boys, Ruben Robert Canez and Dominick Luis Garcia, present.

Luisa, or as her friends and family would call her, Big Red Cabrona, was known for being the life of the party. Her outgoing spirit and laugh brought smiles to everyone around her. She could turn any family get together into an all night dance party. She had a passion for dancing, just as she had a passion for her family. Luisa’s heart was bigger than her fiery red hair. Her intense love for her family and friends was unmatched. Luisa always had an innate ability to connect with people and she brought joy to so many lives. If you knew Luisa, you loved her. Even the shortest amount of time with her left a lasting imprint. Her energy was infectious and will continue to live on within those who loved her.

Luisa is survived by her husband, Ruben Garcia; her sons, Ruben Jr. and Dominick; her parents, David and Louella Canez; and her brothers and sisters, Tracy Reyes (Andrew Reyes), Kerry Medina (Edward Medina), David Canez (Sheena Canez), Eric Canez (Rozalin Aivas), Marilu Carbajal (Diego Carbajal) and Julietta Canez.

Services will be held at St. Matthews Catholic Church 320 N 20th Dr. Phoenix, AZ 85009 on Thursday February 16, 2023. Visitation from 10-10:30am, Rosary at 10:30am with Mass celebration at 11am. Luisa will be laid to rest at St. Francis Cemetery 2033 N 48th St. Phoenix, AZ 85008.

If you would like to donate to funeral services, please call Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home at 602-840-5600 and inform them that you would like to make a donation towards the service for Luisa Canez.

Our deepest condolences from the Garcia family formerly of Latham Street. Luisa, Marilu and Julie were a big part of our childhood as was the entire Canez family. We’ll always remember swimming at the park, riding bikes and all the fun we had in the neighborhood. Although it had been many years since we’d seen each other, it was still with a great sense of loss when the news broke. She will always be with us in spirit.

There is sorrow in the loss of you and like another woman in my life, you were taken too soon. I find some comfort in the faith that you will be greeted with the love of your Aunt Ernie and the two of you will “party” in the heavens above. It is said the name Luisa means female warrior, such a fitting description of you. May you continue to be a warrior on your journey home. Until we meet again cousin – I will always love you!
