Phoenix- On May 22, 2021, Alice Carrillo Castellanos went to be with her heavenly Father. Alice was born on April 15, 1941, in Phoenix Arizona. She graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1959 and worked for the City of Phoenix and St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 41 where she served as treasurer. Alice was a strong and loving mother who raised her four children after losing her first husband at an early age. She was the heart of our family and kept us united throughout her life. She most enjoyed our family gatherings for cookouts and holidays, including Thanksgiving dinners and making tamales for Christmas. Alice was a friend to everyone and will be dearly missed.
Alice was preceded in death by her first husband Joe Louis Gallardo, parents Ernest and Armida Carrillo, and her sister Mary Lou Torres. She is survived by her beloved husband of 25 years, Arthur L Castellanos, her brothers, Ernie (JoAnn), Arnold (Velia), Ruben (Diane), and Richard (Gloria) Carrillo. Her children Joe (Monica) Gallardo, Caroline (Mark) Escobedo, Steve Gallardo, Suzanne Gallardo (Jerry Sanchez), and two grandchildren, Isabela and Maribel.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2021, from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm with a 5:00 pm Rosary at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd, Phoenix. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 4, 2021, at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 13720 W. Thomas Rd., in Avondale. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 9925 W. She was a wonderful mother in-law.
I am grateful that she gave me a beautiful, smart and witty wife (Caroline).
She gave good advice, too: She told me to stay with City of Phoenix for the pension.
I look forward to seeing her again in the resurrection! (John 5:28, 29)

My condolences to all of Alice’s family both the Carrillo’s and Gallardo family. I had the privilege and honor to be a bridesmaid with her brother Ruben in her first marriage to her late husband and wonderful neighbor Jose Luis Gallardo . She was an amazing loving, sweet person who will be missed immensely. She texted me just last month to tell me about her illness and how she was doing well. My dear friend thank you for allowing me to be a little part of your life. ❤️
