Celia Haddy Risk, 98, passed away on November 13, 2007. She was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on March 18, 1909, to Sadie George and Mike Haddy, both of whom were immigrants from Lebanon in the late 1800s. They brought their rich heritage and hard-working ethics to the United States in order to provide a better future for their family. They settled on a farm in Iowa, where they had a total of eight children. In 1925, Celia was married to Mike Thomas Risk, and they had three children: Barbara A. Risk, Thomas M. Risk Melanie, and Janet Risk Peterson Kenneth. As the years progressed, Mike and Celia first operated a grocery store, then a successful dry-cleaning business. Ongoing health problems continued to plague Mike, and eventually the family pulled up its roots and moved to Phoenix from Cedar Rapids in 1954, in the hope that the Arizona sunshine would help him to improve. Nevertheless, his health continued to decline and he passed away in 1960. Shortly thereafter, Celia sold the dry-cleaning business they had established in Phoenix, but she continued to work for a few years in sales at Diamond
