64 of Phoenix, AZ, died October 9, 2009. Bill was born to Gordon C. and C. Burnett Clothier on July 25, 1945 in Chariton, Iowa. Bill attended Garfield and Columbus Elementary schools in Chariton before moving to Denver, CO with his family in 1957. There he graduated from Littleton High School in Littleton, CO and Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO. Upon his retirement as a case worker for the Department of Human Services of Larimer County, CO in 2005, he was commended for work on numerous Colorado State task forces regarding the Colorado Coalition for Elder Rights and Adult Protection. Bill retired in Mesa, AZ and became an integral part of the social fabric at The Wells Retirement Community and East Mesa Christian Church. Bill is survived by brothers; Samuel and Thomas Clothier, several nieces and nephews, a multitude of aunts, cousins and an extended family of young and not so young whose lives were enriched by his caring, compassion and friendship. Visitation will be from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm, with a Funeral Service at 2:00 pm, Monday, October 19, 2009 at Pierschbacher Funeral Home, 914 Roland Avenue, Chariton, IA 50049. Interment will follow at Chariton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made “In Memory of William Joe Clothier” to the John L. Lewis Museum of Coal Mining and Labor and mailed to the John L. Lewis Commission, Inc., P.O. Box 3, Lucas, IA 50151.
