D’ARCANGELO,

D’Arcangelo, James Adrian

Age 80, passed away on December 2, 2010. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on May 22, 1930. James, “Jimmy”, moved to Phoenix in 1944 due to chronic health issues. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1948, and then enrolled at Phoenix College where he held the single season batting average record at over 500 until recently. He also played football at Phoenix College as well as football and baseball at Arizona State University. After college, he was invited to spring training with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Jim remained an avid St. Mary’s and ASU sports booster throughout his life. Jim was married to Marian P. Boyle for 32 years. Together they raised six children: Christine Fierro (Sam), Nick D’Arcangelo, Mark D’Arcangelo, Margaret Ann D’Arcangelo, Carolyn Watson (John), and Mary Frances Cooney (Tom). He owned and operated Jim’s Auto Detail Shop in Phoenix for over 40 years among other business ventures. Jim is survived by siblings Frances Haines (Cleveland, Ohio), Michael D’Arcangelo (Cleveland, Ohio), Margaret Ann Davis (Stockton, California), 15 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nephew Bob Kompes, who lovingly cared for Jim for many years, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by parents Kiddo and Jessie D’Arcangelo, wife Marian, siblings Lucille D’Arcangelo, Lucille Kompes, Nick D’Arcangelo, and Estelle Lapadura. A Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 7, 2010 from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. with a Scripture Service at 7:00 P.M. at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd., Phoenix. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at 11:00 A.M at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3801 E. Greenway Rd., Phoenix. Interment will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 2033 N. 48th St., Phoenix, where he will join his beloved wife.
