
Mary Louise Diaz nee Valverde passed away at 87 years on August 10, 2021 surrounded by loving family members. Adored mother, grandmother, sister and aunt she is survived by her youngest daughter, Laura Diaz, grandchildren Bianca Slingerland, Eric Baker, Sarah Sanchez, Asakwah Rice and Gilbert Xavier Sanchez and great-grandchildren Maliyah Binkney and Anthony Slingerland. She is predeceased by her two daughters, Joanna Martinez and Grace Diaz. She is also survived by two sisters, Genevieve Fernandez and Maya Valverde, a brother Francisco Valverde, along with many nieces and nephews, as well as her ex-husband, Eduardo Diaz. She was the sixth child of 12 siblings of Refugio and Refugia Valverde and lived in Phoenix for most of her life. She was retired from Motorola as a quality control specialist. Mary Lou was a central member of the extended family, and an organizer of events and meals on many occasions. Her kindness, devotion and humility will be missed by many and she will be held in loving memory.
On Sunday, August 15, 2021 a visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix. On Monday, August 16, 2021 at 10:00 a.m., Mass will be celebrated at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 8615 W. Peoria Avenue, Peoria. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery.
