Jessica Lee Edgar, age 49, passed away peacefully October 25, 2021 after a months long battle, ultimately due to pneumonia and a subsequent case of sepsis. She was born on April 11, 1972, in Hyannis, Massachusetts to Jeffrey and Pamela. She was married and had two children, Samuel and Christian Mendoza.
Jessica had a comical side and always made people laugh. Jessica loved to hike and travel, including abroad. Jessica also loved sports, mainly baseball. She was a die-hard Boston Red Sox fan and attended many games with her late-grandfather (Walter Gardiner), boys, nephew, and friends over the years.
Following her extensive pediatric bedside nursing career, Jessica worked for Make-a-Wish foundation as the Director of Medical Affairs for the past several years. It suited her servant heart. She said she did it because she was able to continue to help children outside a clinical setting. Jessica was also a community leader and advocated tirelessly on behalf of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners across the country and with the Arthritis Foundation.
Her life was a living example of a distinguished Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”
She is survived by her two sons (Samuel Walter Mendoza and Christian Jake Mendoza), her two brothers (Jonathan Barrett Edgar and Brett Avery Wood), her mother (Pamela Jean Wood), and her nephew (Michael Jonathan Edgar).
Please join us for the wake and celebration of her life Sunday, October 31, 2021. 10:00 a.m. —12:00 p.m. for the wake; memorial service commencing at 1:00 PM at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix. We will be providing a link in the coming days for those who wish to attend virtually. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jessica’s honor to the Arthritis Foundation (https://www.arthritis.org/donate).

My sincerest condolences to your entire family! I never knew Jessica but I feel as though I caught a glimpse of her beautiful spirit everytime my coworker and friend John spoke of his sister. I could hear the love in his voice as he spoke of Jessica. I know she will be terribly missed but she will continue and always live in your hearts

I am very sad to learn of Jessica’s passing. She sounds like a wonderful person who lived a giving and serving life. I, unfortunately, never had the chance to meet her. I am her aunt and have the same birthday as Jessica. Her father, Jeff, was my brother. I offer my condolences to her family, friends, and co-workers. She will certainly be missed.
