
Moody, Ellen Rosemary
77 years, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, at John C. Lincoln Hospital, Phoenix, after a short illness. She was born in Staten Island, NY on February 6, 1932, the daughter of Daniel and Helen Cox Mateka. She grew up on the east coast – also residing in Washington, DC, New Jersey, and Maryland. Upon graduating high school, she enlisted in U.S. Army Women’s Army Corp- WAC at 18 years of age 1950 and served for four years as a dental assistant. While serving, she met and later married Jack Louis Moody in San Diego in l954, where they lived and raised nine children. The family relocated to Phoenix in l968, where she later worked as a health aide at Little Sisters of the Poor Convalescent Home. She was an avid reader, devout Catholic, and loved the beach. She also enjoyed baking, crocheting, her cats, shopping and movies. She had a great sense of humor and once said she majored in “laundry and housekeeping” when commenting on her occupation. Most of all she was a great mother who thoroughly loved and enjoyed her very large family. She is survived by her eight children; Daniel Anita Moody, Mary Gary-deceased Benson, William June Moody, Jacqueline Robert Large, Patrick Jennifer Moody, Margaret Ariel Terraza Moody and Jesse Moody; 29 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; close personal friend, Carol; and a brother, John Cox of St. Louis, MO. She was preceded in death by a husband, Jack 1980, her oldest son, Michael Moody 2005, and a grandson, Patrick. A Funeral Mass is scheduled at 10:00 am, Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at St. Mary’s Basilica, 231 N. 3rd Street, Phoenix www.stmarysbasilica.org followed immediately by Interment at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery, 2300 W. Van Buren, Phoenix. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her, but especially by her family – for whom who sacrificed so much.
