Betty Lou Essa

Betty Lou Essa of Phoenix, Arizona passed away on the morning of June 13, 2021, surrounded by family and prayer. She was born on May 12, 1927, in Tipp City, Ohio and moved to Phoenix in February of 1959. Betty is survived by her loving husband of fifty-one years, Tofhik (Tom) Essa, her son, Wayne Easterling Jr. (Catherine), Christina Wenzel (Bernie, 2013), Theresa Taylor, and Cynthia Grathwohl. Betty was the grandmother of ten, and the great grandmother of nineteen.
Betty was a woman of unfathomable love, compassion, and faith in the Lord. As a Catholic, she raised her family by example, placing them second only to her devotion to Jesus Christ and our Holy Mother. For Betty, no sacrifice was too great when it came to the wellbeing of her beloved family. In life, it was her passion to bring her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren together as one; through them, her legacy lives on.
A viewing and rosary vigil will be held for Betty on Friday, June 25, 2021, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road in Phoenix, AZ. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated the following day on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 10:30am, at Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2312 E. Campbell Avenue in Phoenix. Burial to follow at Saint Francis Catholic Cemetery where Betty will be laid to rest.
