Gretchen Evans (Braun), 71, daughter of the late Werner and Lois Braun, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2022 in Scottsdale, Arizona. She is survived by her husband of nearly 43 years, Dietmar Evans, and their two daughters, Heather (Jansen) and Megan (Morgan), their spouses Tom Jansen and Peter Morgan, and her grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Henry (6) and Hayden (2) Jansen.
Gretchen was born in Quincy, Illinois. She attended Southern Illinois University (Carbondale) where she received a bachelor’s degree in Social Welfare, and was an active member in her sorority, Sigma Sigma Sigma. She went on to work for the State of Illinois and the State of Arizona for almost 20 years before entering the private sector for many more years of her successful career. She always had a passion for helping others.
Gretchen loved traveling and being with her family most. She battled cancer more than once in her life and was a fighter. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends across the country.
A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center or the Arizona Humane Society.

I hope Gretchen’s family is feeling the hugs and sincere words of sympathy that are being sent. No words can fill this feeling of loss for this wife, mother, grandmother, best friend, and long-time Sigma sister. She loved life and loved it fully.

I was so lucky to reunite with Gretchen at our 50th high school reunion. She’s always been such a warm, unpretentious and real human being that the intervening years after high school just evaporated. She was always good-natured and sunny. I’m proud to be able to call her my friend. We had some really good times, and I will always remember her with love. RIP dear friend and WWOSE.

Gretchen was a generous mentor – equally full or wisdom and fun – and was one of my favorite colleagues in the almost 10 years we spent together at Goodwill. Sending sincere condolences to her loved ones.
