66, of Scottsdale, Arizona passed away on July 11, 2010. Richard was born on April 24, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan. He was lovingly adopted by the dear Alfred and Rosemary Funke. He is survived by his two sons Zachary and Benjamin (and devoted girlfriend Cory), sister Kathy of Flint, Michigan, and his longtime companion cockapoo “Niki”. Richard worked as a real estate developer in Downtown Scottsdale for over 30 years and often spoke of his restoration of the historic Charles Miller bungalow home as his greatest achievement – a building that he saved from demolition in 2002. His unique artistic vision was realized through his resourcefulness and innovative spirit. Richard was an avid student of yoga, a collector of automobilia, classic cars, and iconic Old West memorabilia, and lover of eccentric pop art and sculpture. His memory will be cherished by many. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, July 18th at 10:00 am at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road. Donations can be made to a cancer charity of your choice.

Ben & Zack: I’m truly sorry for your loss. I’m so glad I got the opportunity to see him a few weeks ago. I had know Richard from back in the Camelback Mortage Days 28 years ago. I had met him there. I was then layed off after 6 years and he told me to go to Fry Inv. Co. as they were hiring. I have been here for 22 years. So thanks to Richard I have wonderful job. He always came in and would speak about his yoga or you kids whom he loved very much. And his little dog Nicki. He always made me laugh. You will truly be missed Richard. May you rest in Heaven! My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Brenda Buck

Richard:
You’ll be missed…we shared some great victories together and I have valued our professional relationship. I have always admired what you had accomplished having arrived in Scottsdale with little.
Take care my friend.
