Genevieve A. Gedeon

On February 2nd, Genevieve A. Gedeon (née Davis) left this earthy realm to join loved ones who preceded her. Born in 1924 to parents from Lebanon and Syria starting a new life in Sudbury, Canada, Genevieve spent her early years surrounded by a large loving family managing through the travails of the Great Depression, World War II, and long cold winters. In 1948, her family moved to the small but growing city of Phoenix, Arizona to escape the ill effects of the Sudbury cold and air on her father. Along with her sisters Helen, Nora, and Pauline, Genevieve would later journey to the San Francisco Bay Area where she met her husband, William Gedeon. Her years in San Francisco were blessed with two children, Judy and Michael, and many friends. Genevieve focused on raising a family, hosting events for family and community causes, and applying her depression-honed, enterprising skills to hobbies such as garage sales.

When her mother suffered a stroke, Genevieve channeled her energies on her mother’s care back in Phoenix. Not long after her mother passed, Genevieve would relocate to Phoenix. Never one to be idle, she found work promoting middle eastern food products in supermarkets for a local company. A perfect fit for her charming personality and enterprising spirit, she enjoyed meeting customers, making new friends among co-workers, and being an ambassador for the food. When she could no longer physically manage the work, she loved to play bridge at the local senior center and shop at her neighborhood grocery stores where she bonded with the store clerks proudly asking them “how old do you think I am?”.

Genevieve was most proud of her children, grandchildren, and extended family. Her life and many sacrifices were all for them. She is survived by her daughter Judy, son Michael, son-in-law Kayvan, daughter-in-law Sheryl, grandchildren Michael and Mark, and siblings Helen and Paul. Genevieve’s passing was preceded by her husband Bill, siblings John, Joseph, Nora, and Pauline, and parents Peter and Nancy. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10AM on Thursday, February 16th at Saint Francis Xavier Church, 4715 N. Central Avenue, Phoenix. Condolences may be expressed at www.whitneymurphyfunerahome.com
