George Aris Scarla, 88 years old, of Phoenix, passed away peacefully Sunday morning July 1, 2007 at home with his family present. He was born August 15, 1918 in Washington D.C. where he lived until he was 8 when his family moved back to Greece. At the age of 20, he moved back to Washington D.C. He volunteered into the Army and served during World War II. After the war, he served as a security guard for the U.S. Treasury Department. In 1947, he married the love of his life, Angelica Kimer and they moved to Phoenix. He started and operated Scarla Produce Company until retiring in 1973. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, photography and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Angie, sons Dennis and Aris George, daughter Ann Hughes of Ohio, and seven grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
