Kenneth William Germain, 92, passed away February 14, 2014.  Ken was born in Syracuse, NY, grew up in Buffalo and later moved to Phoenix with his wife Edna Eggert Germain.  Ken is a Veteran of WW II, serving in the 75th Infantry Division.  He served in three campaigns in the European Theater of Operations, earning as he said “three battle stars and no scars”.  After moving to Phoenix, Ken worked for Sperry Flight Systems for 25 years.  During that time, he worked on the gyroscope system and flight indicators for the first NASA Shuttle.  Ken helped create the Sperry Flight Systems Credit Union, leading it as President for several years.  Ken was very involved with his community.  Before moving to Phoenix, he was a volunteer fireman and member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce in West Seneca, New York.  He was committed to the Boy Scouts as a Scout leader, supporting his son, David for eight years.  In Phoenix, he was a volunteer at St. Theresa’s Church, delivered food to families in need through St. Mary’s Food Bank and was involved in keeping his neighborhood safe with the Neighborhood Watch.  Ken also was an Arizona State University fan, attending Sun Devil Football games for many years.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Edna. He is survived by two children, David (Sharon) and Judie (Michael); grandchildren Michael (Marla), Jeffrey (Kami), and Jennifer; great grandchildren, Katie, Hudsyn, Kyle, Brady, and Kelly; and a sister, Rita.   Visitation is Thursday, Feb. 20 from 6 PM to 8PM at Whitney & Murphy, 4800 E. Indian School Rd. Phoenix.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday Feb. 21 at 10 AM, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 5045 E. Thomas Rd, Phoenix with internment to follow at East Resthaven Park Cemetery.
