GOUT, MARY MAXINE (NANA)
Mary Maxine Gout (80) passed away peacefully at home in Phoenix, Arizona on October 6, 2019, surrounded by her family.
Maxine was born in Graettinger, Iowa on April 5, 1939 to Vincent and Mabel (Sipes) Hassel. The family soon made their home in Estherville, where Maxine was the oldest of 14 children.
Shortly after high school graduation, Maxine moved to Denver, Colorado where she started her own young family, eventually making her way back to Estherville to raise her children. Maxine made her career in the insurance industry, working for The Barnes Agency and The Blum & Leonard Agency in Estherville. Maxine moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1989 and continued her insurance career with The Hawkeye Insurance Agency, retiring in 2000. For the next several years she worked part time at a movie theater, Target and volunteered in the maternity ward at the Chandler Regional Medical Center.
Her entire life, Maxine was a pillar of strength for her family and friends. She was a strong and independent woman who was loved by all who knew her. Maxine was always the voice of reason, keeping everyone on a straight and moral path. She was a parishioner of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Phoenix and served as a Eucharistic Minister. Nana loved more than anything spending time with her grandkids and watching them grow. She loved family gatherings, attending her grandkids sporting events, reading, playing cards and puzzles. Nana especially cherished the friendships that she made and time she was able to spend with the OWLS Card Club.

Dear Family of Maxine Hassel Gout,
We are sad beyond belief at the passing of your loved one, Maxine.
Max was in my graduating class from Estherville High School. She was known for her resilience, strength, her unfailing good humor and loyalty to her friends.
Max had a hard life but she never complained. Her strength came from her deep faith in God.
We wish you deep condolence at her passing. Surely all her loved ones and all the angels and saints welcomed her with a resounding and joyful greeting in heaven.
You children have been an inspiration in your loving care of your mother. God bless you all.
Please accept my deepest condolences for your family’s loss. May God bless and comfort you during this time of grief.
To the family, my heartfelt condolences for your loss. Please find comfort in the knowledge that soon God will wipe out every tear from our eyes, and “death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”(Rev. 21:3,4) May this promise give you comfort now and a real hope for the future. My deepest sympathies.
To the family; my thoughts and prayers are with you. Maxine may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. I hope you feel surrounded by much love.
Maxine was a friend of mine when she lived in Estherville and was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. We could count on her for anything and everything. I’m sure it was the same way with her family so I know she will be greatly missed but also cherished in your hearts forever.
Take Care,
Cathy
