Mary Guido aka “Funseeker” of Phoenix, passed away March 6, 2015. She was born Mary Maurizi on March 16, 1932, the daughter of Italian immigrants. She was treasured by her parents and three brothers and grew into both an industrious and beautiful woman in Chicago, Illinois. She married Anthony N. Guido in 1952 and started their family in Maywood, Illinois. Mary and Tony moved out west to Phoenix, AZ in 1958. She raised a boisterous and successful family and built a business with her husband that continues to thrive in Phoenix today. She cultivated a wonderful circle of friends and maintained lifelong relationships that now span generations. Mary was a faithful St. Thomas parishioner for 57 years and was instrumental in the growth and development of their Women’s Sodality, school, and church community. Mary’s legacy continues through her loving family and devoted friends. She is survived by her five children and seven grandchildren. Mary was known for her generous spirit, superb scrabble skills and love of travel. Many will remember her organizing fabulous Fun Nights and hosting elaborate parties. Whether it was a holiday or not, there was always cause for celebration when Mary was around. She will be dearly missed for her positive outlook on life, her sense of humor, the support she was always eager to lend others, and constantly sharing whatever song was currently in her heart. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, March 13th, 2015 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2312 E. Campbell Avenue, Phoenix. All are invited to the Interment at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery and a luncheon to follow.

She was always laughing, smiling and wanting to do. I will never forget our infamous trip to California when I was a teen. may she rest in peace along with Uncle Tony. I will treasure memories of get togethers with Aunt Mary and even hiking Squaw Peak with her and her children. It was Mary that predicted all of us Guidos moving out to beautiful Phoenix, which of course did happen.

The Gudio’s , even saying their name makes you Smile. Mary was a Great friend to the St. Thomas Family. As well as our’s. Our family grew up with theirs. The had as many kids as us. LOL Mrs. Gudio always made each guest feel welcomed in her home. and Mary threw my Aunt Fay a bacheloret Party that we still talk about. Mrs. Guido was always fun, happy and full of life. I asked her to be my Godmother for Confirmation, and was blessed when she agreed. She was my Mom’s best friend for many, many, years and our families were inseparable. I will never forget the bridge parties in our living room, Halloween candy swaps and family celebrations for Thanksgiving especially. She was the best Girl Scout leader! I remember being part of your family for as long as I have memory. Mrs. Guido has always been such a fun part of that be it cooking her fabulous lasagna, playing cards in the summer as the fourth hand in bridge camping at Oak Creek or just being part of the herd of kids that was always welcome at her house. I have always read her gravestone when visiting my Mom’s grave. Even though I am unable to attend I will always remember her laugh and smile as I know she wanted.
