HASULAK, DONALD JOSEPH

March 21, 2018 15 Condolences

Don Hasulak 1 2

Donald Joseph Hasulak, 63, is a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. Don used his creative and artistic abilities to bring the holidays to life with a spooky Halloween display and an impressive 14 foot live Christmas tree. His cherished pastimes were vacationing in Sedona with his family and going on movie and dinner dates with his wife, Kerry, of almost 37 years. He was an avid reader and a history buff. Don was born on September 16, 1954 in Japan to Mary and Joseph Hasulak. His childhood was filled with endless adventures across the globe. He attended high school at Delbarton in New Jersey followed by receiving a degree from the Cornell University School of Architecture. In 1977, he moved to Phoenix to join his brothers in a woodworking business and shortly after met his dear wife. He went on to become the managing director at Fitch, and then at Big Red Rooster, until starting his own architecture firm with his wife and son last year. Don passed on March 17, 2018 surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his mother, his wife, his children Amy, Jeff, Amber, Larry, Alex, Maddy, and Aubree, and his grandchildren Jacob, Andrew, Katie, and Kylee. Our family is heartbroken by the loss of a great man. He was at the highlight of his life, pursuing his dreams when he was taken too soon. We will miss him and his sense of humor deeply. Thank you for your love and support during this difficult time. If anyone would like to swap stories and visit, the Hasulak’s will be hosting an open house on Friday, March 23rd from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at their home. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 24th at 10:00 A.M. at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 East Indian School Road, Phoenix. For those who would like to join, there will be a graveside service at the Sedona Community Cemetery at 2:00 P.M., 201 Pine Drive Sedona, AZ 86336, followed by a reception at Arroyo Roble Resort at 3:00 P.M., 100 Arroyo Roble Road, Unit #1340, Sedona, AZ 86336. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Children’s Cancer Network, 6150 West Chandler Blvd. Suite 1, Chandler, AZ 85226. https://www.childrenscancernetwork.org/donate/donate-now/

I always enjoyed when Don came back on campus to Delbarton. Always had a smile and loved to share stories of his days as a boarder. All of us at Delbarton will miss him.

Our love, prayers, and deepest sympathy go out to all of you. Don truly was a great man, and he lit up our lives in so many ways over the many years we have been blessed to be your neighbors. We so enjoyed the chats on the driveway, impromptu beers in the garage, joking about the enormous ladder and who got the Christmas decorations up first (Jack, of course!). The joy Don brought to so many people each year with his days of tireless work on the annual haunted house speaks volumes about the wonderful man he was. We will miss him dearly and hold these memories fondly always.

    Kerry and all,
My heart goes out to you and your family at this time.
When I think of Don , I think of a man who provided opportunity, who showed great patience, and one who helped me to grow professionally . More than that, Don showed me the infinite importance of family (above business) and shared all of you with me at Thanksgiving and at Halloween from time to time. Don’s example of taking care of family will live on in me and I am grateful for the life lessons learned from him.
Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
    Russ, Sil and Alexander

I am sorry to hear of Don’s passing. I am one of Don’s old college roommates from Cornell and remember him fondly. He was the only person of my generation that had a good time in Vietnam. If you would like to learn about “The girlfriend and the chainsaw” (no dismemberment involved) or “Nearly blowing the windows out of a dorm room with a milk can and butane” I would be happy to share those stories and perhaps others.
