Daniel Candia Hernandez, son of Lucila and Manuel Hernandez, passed away from this earthly life on December 3, 2022 at the age of 58. Daniel is survived by his
brothers and sisters, Manuel (Elizabeth) Hernandez, Jr., Isabel (Ruben) Arvizu, Felicia (Cloid) Adams, and Rosa (Ronald) Miranda; and also, by 11 nieces & nephews and 10 great-nieces & nephews.
Daniel was a kind and patient soul who was unselfishly generous with his time and support. Daniel was an Arizona State University graduate, and he enjoyed his career as a certified Teacher/Educator for multiple subjects (Math, Science, History, and others) in several elementary and high schools in the Phoenix area.
Daniel lived a quiet life and cherished the simple things. He enjoyed playing Chess, card & board games, watching Star Trek and sci-fi movies, eating good food, and
spending time with family/friends at get-togethers or parties.
Daniel was loved by his family and friends, and he was also respected by coworkers, and students. Daniel will rest peacefully knowing that all who know him will
miss him very much. Daniel’s impact on those he leaves behind in this world will continue because he is an ‘Organ Donor’, and so even more people will benefit from his thoughtfulness and compassion.
On Friday, December 16, 2022 from 10:00 – 11:00AM will be a visitation with Mass to be celebrated at 11AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1421 S. 12th Street, Phoenix. Burial to follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery. Also, a “Remembrance of Life” luncheon announcement will be made after the burial service with the reception address for those who wish to attend.
Please keep our families and those who appreciated Daniel in your prayers during these trying times and celebrate Daniel’s life and legacy as he would have wished.
“In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count – it is the life in your years …and what you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone but what you have woven into the lives of others who have been around you.” Author Unknown

My sincere condolences to family. I know that we will all miss him dearly. Daniel has been a very good friend and one of my favorite people in the entire world for 40 plus years. Without exception he was always available with a helping hand. I’ve always been able to count on him and his friendship. He walked with God on earth. Now he gets to fly with angels in heaven. I will miss him. Daniel positively influenced me through high school, college, and adulthood. and now my future will be different without his guidance, kindness, and giving friendship. I wish more people were like him, would certainly be a different world. Those who know him understand this. I will miss him dearly.

My condolences to the family. Daniel had a bright spirit that could be felt anywhere in the room. Daniel helped me get through high school by helping me with my math homework and pointed me in the right direction when I needed it. Daniel was always willing to people like me without hesitation. One of the things that stood out most about Daniel was how he told things how they were. Daniel will be missed very much by the many people he impacted (me included). He is now with the angels and able to enter the gates of heaven with open arms. Thank you Daniel for all you did to help me and many other students like myself. We will never forget the impact you made not only on our academics but our character as well. Rest in peace

Deepest sympathies to Daniel’s family whom he loved with all his heart. He would always talk about his love for all his nieces and nephews. He also cherished his family in San Diego very much. He loved to encourage his students to do the best they can and we would often see them in the community at the movies, mall and various places. They would put a big smile on his face and he was so passionate about their progress. He especially loved his sister Rosa and often spoke abt her great cooking and delicious enchiladas. He was so happy to live with her and the family. He provided me with love and unconditional friendship and indeed we were best friend. Farewell Daniel and see you soon in heaven! Maria

I had the pleasure of working with Daniel a few times this school year. He had a natural gift of connecting with the kids. I very much enjoyed the time we worked together. He was someone that the kids could really look up to.

When I would arrive to work in mornings, I would take the elevator and we’d have some small talk. I did not know him well but I do remember that he told me a story about the one and only time he got in trouble at school. He said he had family members working at the school he went to. He told me it only took one time for him to learn his lesson and he said “I try to help the kids understand that.” I loved that he used the word “try” instead of “make” because just that small one word swap, can make all the difference. He truly touched my heart and he will be missed dearly, I wish I could’ve gotten to know him better but I’m thankful for what I did know. May he rest in peace!

It was a pleasure to serve with Mr. Hernandez during the 2021-2022 school year at Griffith Elementary School.
Mr. Hernandez had a wonderful sense humor and a great deal of patience and intellect that he shared with students each day. He will never be forgot in the hearts and minds of the people who he touched.
May you all find comfort and peace during your time mourning.

Mr. Hernandez presence will be greatly missed in our school. I appreciate all the help and support he gave to me and the students in my class on a daily basis. His kindess and ability to share humor during busy work-filled times made the days brighter. Truly a wonderful soul to know and we are better for it.
To his family, you have my sincerest sympathies.

Daniel was a truly nice man. He always thought of others and did his best to help them. He always brought a laugh and a cup of black coffee. He talked often about family and his students, their ups and downs in life and how what he was doing to make sure they were ok. I had the pleasure of knowing him playing the card game Shadowfist at our weekly game night. I’m having a cup of black coffe in your memory my friend. Rest well.
