We mournfully announce the passing of Elva Josephine Herrera, 51, of Phoenix, Arizona. Elva passed away on November 12, 2021 from complications of Covid.
Elva was born on November 20, 1969 to Joe Sr. and Maria Herrera in Colorado Springs, CO. Elva attended North Jr. High and Palmer High School where she made lifelong friends.
For the past 20 years Elva worked as a packer for various moving companies. She liked to go camping, fishing, making crafts, listening to oldies, spending time with her kids & grandkids. She was a die-hard fan of the Miami Dolphins, she loved the Smurfs, she had a collection of approximately 50 cherished ceramic teddy bears that she proudly displayed in her home for the past 20 years. She also liked her race cars…. but, always wrecked them… Elva was too fast, too furious. Elva was a second Mom to so many. You knew you were initiated into the family when she licked you somewhere on your face! She was a big kid at heart and loved to play around. She had a big smile and a laugh that was contagious. She impacted so many people and will be dearly missed.
Elva was preceded in death by her parents Joe Herrera Sr. & Maria Herrera, her Brother Joe Herrera Jr.; Nephews Roy Vialpando and David Vialpando. She is survived by her children, Mercedes Bernabei (Adam Leyba), Dion Herrera (Samantha Herrera) & Alexandra Herrera; Goddaughter Divinity Herrera; grandchildren Josiah Bernabei-Lara, Jovany Herrera- Lucero, Amiah Hernandez, Luciano Herrera-Vigil, Malcolm Leyba, Rayleen Escamilla-Castellano, Natawny Escamilla, Selena Escamilla; sister Lucy Ortega (Levi Ortega) and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

A beautiful soul taken too soon. I was so looking forward to joining you in Arizona. We were going to have so much fun at the car shows! But I’m glad we got to work together before you left and that we became closer friends. This world may have lost a kind heart but you are going to make an amazing guardian angel. I’ll miss you and always think of you with love.

Im still in disbelief that you are gone. You sure knew how to make me laugh. I enjoyed our time we spent together fishing, grilling, going to the casino. You asked me to take you to the beach. You are there now no more pain or suffering you are at peace. Rest in paradise!
