
Alice Herwehe (Ryan) January 11, 1927 passed away peacefully on June 1, 2010. Alice was proud of her Arizona Ranching heritage. Born in Globe Arizona, Alice spent most of her summers in the White Mountains at the ranch owned by her parents, William and Edith Ryan. She returned to Phoenix during the winter months to attend school. Alice was a 1944 graduate of Phoenix Union High School and furthered her education at Phoenix College. Alice’s rich Arizona family history includes her grandfather who started the Ryan Evans Drugstore chain in the early 1900’s.
Alice was preceded in death by her Husband of 53 years (Fred), her brothers (Bill, Emmet, Ed, and Kenneth) and her sister Edith May.
Family was Alice’s primary joy and priority in life. Even after moving to Colorado she maintained very close ties to her extended family in Arizona. Her commitment to her children, Grandchildren, Great Grandchild kept her busy traveling to graduations (she made it to all of her eight grandchildren’s high school graduations) and to spend holidays with her scattered family.
Alice is survived by her sister Joanne (Ryan) Perry, four children (Peggy O’Neil, Pat Smith, Ken and Rick Herwehe), 8 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Although Mom only spent a short time at Encore Senior Village in Peoria the love and support for her and all the family is greatly appreciated.
Services will be held at Saint Gregory Church (3424 N. 18th Avenue) on June 7th . Rosary 9:30 AM Visitation 10:00 followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of Arizona 2222 W. Northern Ave. Ste A-100 or the Alzheimer’s Association 322 Eighth Ave. 7th Floor, New York ,NY 10001 (alz.org).
