He was the youngest of four children being predeceased by his sister Betty Swanson and brother Maurice S. Malone. Hugh attended St. Boniface grade school, and Kersey High where he graduated Salutatorian. He attended Penn State University, where he was a member of many academic honor societies, and received his BS in engineering. Hugh received his Master’s of electronic engineering from ASU. Hugh was a 38 year member of Motorola Government Division spending his last four years with General Dynamics before retiring. Hugh received many patents over the years. As a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee, Hugh was awarded the Dan Noble Fellowship. Hugh is survived by his loving wife Lustre Marie, his beloved daughter Mollie Marie Mayer and her husband Michael David Mayer, sister Peg Welz, sister-in-law Pat Malone, sister and brother-in-law Sherrill and Jim Westin, with many nieces and nephews, and cousins “by the dozens” in both Arizona and Pennsylvania. Hugh was a gentleman and a scholar. He had a grand sense of humor which he enjoyed sharing. Hugh was the consummate man of all trades redoing his sprinkler system, building a computer desk, pre-planning vacations which he shared with Lustre and earlier Mollie, and golf, boating, and hunting wildlife with camera, among myriad other interests. A loyal Catholic all his life, Hugh’s funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 5045 E. Thomas Rd. in Phoenix on Wednesday, May 14, at 10:30 A.M. with visitation the previous evening, Tuesday, May 13, at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E.
