On April 26, 2018, after a long battle with cancer, Michael A. Koenig of Scottsdale, AZ, died peacefully surrounded by his family. He joins his sister, Pam, and his parents, Harold and Violet in heaven. He is survived by his wife and best friend, of 32 years, Sandy Koenig. Michael leaves 5 children, Shelly McCully (age 46), Russell Koenig (age 42), David Koenig (age 29), Nick Koenig (age 28), Michael Koenig (age 23) and 3 grandchildren, Courtney Santamaria, Nathaniel McCully, and Camille Koenig. He is also survived by his two sisters, Sharon Taraci and Kathy Gigger. Michael was loved by a big community of cherished friends and his devoted dog, Mac. Mike had a zest for life enjoying the simplest pleasures, being out in nature, sitting by a fire, riding his motorcycle, and making music with his congas. He worked hard, played hard and loved fiercely. Michael was a professional custom home painter for over 40 years and a pseudo weatherman in his spare time. We could always count on a daily weather report from him no matter where he was at. You will be truly missed, Mike. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Whitney and Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85018, on May 11, 2018 at 4:00 PM followed by a reception at 3351 E. Las Rocas, Phoenix, AZ 85028. In lieu of flowers, donations or contributions can be made to: André House, P.O. Box 2014, Phoenix, AZ 85001-2014, via their website http://andrehouse.org/donate/

Our very deepest condolences to Sandy and the entire Koenig family. I have known Mike since our high school days and have always had such admiration for his gentle nature. He was always fun to be around….especially for anyone that shared his enthusiasm for cars, motorcycles, drums and the outdoors.
I pray that you find comfort in your many memories and the long lasting tributes he has left you created with his stilled hands. What a talented guy he was.
My thoughts are with each of you and I shall look forward to seeing you as his celebration
