KOSTYUN, SHARON ELAINE

December 15, 2017 3 Condolences

Sharon Kostyun 2

Sharon Elaine Kostyun, a Phoenix native, was born to John and Dorothy (Dixon) Maurin, Phoenix pioneer natives, on 11-13-1945 and passed away on December 15th, 2017 after a courageous and long battle with cancer. Sharon fought bravely with great strength, patience, and fearlessness, never losing her wonderful sense of humor. She married Frank Kostyun on April 4th of 1972 and they had three children, Frank M., Mary (Kostyun) Brownlie, and Peter. She was a beloved Grammy to Maren (aged 15), Liam (8), and Esther (6 months). She was an inspiring role model to her spouse, her children, and her grandchildren. Sharon, a devoted member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Parish, attended mass daily. She is survived by her sister Jerolyn Vickers and her brother John Maurin and is preceded in death by her niece Jamie. She was a wonderful mother-in-law to Johnny, Lisa, and Jessica. Sharon enjoyed teaching and considered motherhood her special calling. She was a dedicated volunteer at St. Matthew’s, a terrific coupon clipper, and a mighty Boggle and Scrabble player. Sharon was a talented seamstress, creating anything her friends and family could dream up, including many Halloween costumes, dresses, quilts, and decorations for the church. She was a woman of strong faith, patience, devoted friendships, endless good humor, loved a good bargain and a strong cup of coffee. Sharon enjoyed giving to others and wove strong threads of love throughout her entire family. Sharon will be remembered for her innate kindness, her dry wit, and will be forever missed and never forgotten by all who loved her. Rosary and visitation will be held at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church located at 320 N. 20th Dr., Phoenix, AZ 85009 on Friday, December 29th, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will also be held at St. Matthews’s on Saturday, December 30th, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. followed by interment at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery at 2033 N. 48th St., Phoenix, AZ 85008. Reception will be held at St. Matthew’s following burial. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to St. Matthew Catholic School, 320 N. 20th Drive, Phoenix, AZ 85009. Arrangements entrusted to Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Rd., Phoenix.

Sharon was a gem. a marvelous person and friend. I offer my condolences to her husband, Frank Kostyun and to their children.
It is difficult to find the words to adequately express my grief at her passing. She was an amazing friend, low key, and a sense of fun unique to her. She was truly a precious friend.
I’m fortunate to have known Sharon as a friend.
