Polly Lasson, 93, passed away May 2, 2017 surrounded by her family in her Phoenix home. Polly was born Ona Mae Chennault July 11, 1923 to Luther and Gertrude Chennault in Aspermont, Texas. Polly’s brothers Woody and Jack (brother John died a toddler) and sister Opal contributed greatly to her feisty tomboy nature. Polly and her lifelong friend Pat decided to have a great adventure at 18 and made their way to California where she worked at See’s Candies and, as a “Rosie the Riveter” during WWII. Polly met a handsome young sailor, Ken Lasson, at a dance and love bloomed. They married and moved to Illinois, Ken’s birthplace, settling in Aurora. Wanderlust struck again in 1963 and they moved with their 4 children, JoAnn, Jacqueline, Linda and Mary to Phoenix. Polly had her hands full raising four daughters, helping her husband run 2 family businesses, teaching Sunday School and attending Monte Vista Baptist Church. In her free time, she loved to read and passed this love on to her girls. Polly is survived by her four daughters. Her life was enriched by her seven grandchildren, Matthew, Stephanie and Nathan Hertzfeld, Joshua and Kari Olsen and Benjamin and Samantha Vicchio. And the antics of Polly’s four great-grandchildren, Charlie, Jacob, Emma and Greyson would make her smile and happily anticipate the 5th on the way. Polly will be laid to rest with her husband, Ken, together again, at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in North Phoenix. Polly’s family sends a heartfelt thank you to her caregiver Kathy for her tough love and to Sage Hospice for their caring guidance. A private family gathering will be held shortly.
