With sadness, love, and profound gratitude, the family of Rachel Lopez Losada announces her passing on March 7, 2023. She was born in Bisbee, Arizona on October 1, 1938, to Marina and Manuel Lopez and was one of three children. After graduating from Phoenix Union High School, where her official “Golden Girls” membership with life-long friends began and was maintained for decades, she actively promoted her secretarial skills and knowledge, ultimately serving as an Administrative Assistant for the Department of Motor Vehicles/Investigations Unit for many years until her retirement.
Prior to working in this role, she dedicated her time to being involved as a full-time mother to her children during their elementary school years and volunteering her time to become a well-loved Cub Scout Leader at St. Agnes; always an advocate for continued learning and education. She was known to many for her keen and gentle ability to listen, regularly slipping in her witty, yet well-timed humor, knowledge and love of history, and for truly being appreciative of the simple joys of life, including going on familiar drives to Wickenburg and other local trips.
Most representative of Rachel was her unwavering faith and love of God which was reflected in her gentle, forgiving, and graceful demeanor; always reminding to treat others as Jesus would. She was our Nana who without fail, had a cabinet stocked with favorite treats, a warm pot of soup on the stove, and a loving embrace.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Horace and Manuel Lopez. She is survived by her “favorite person” as she called her husband of 56 years, Anthony Losada, and their three children; Joseph, Marcus, and Marisa (Jason) Jordan, and her 11 grandchildren; Valerie, Victoria, Julia, Rebecca, Bella, Emmy, Nathan, Andrew, Arielle, Genevieve, and Max.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM with Rosary Prayers at 6 PM on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1954 N 24th Street in Phoenix on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery.
