
She met her husband, John, during World War II inLondon and he convinced her to come to the United States and marry him one year after the war had ended. She became a devoted mother to Patrick John, Margaret Jane, and Mary Elizabeth Calihan. She held a special place in her heart for her son-in-law, Peter Calihan. Nana’s grandchildren; Daniel Calihan (Emily), Kevin Calihan (Tara) and Katie Evarkiou (Adrian) were her “pride and joy”, and her great grandchildren; Caroline, Peter and Blair (Canny and Emily), Ava and Mia (Kevin and Tara) and Lila Rose (Katie and Adrian) were her treasured blessings. Betty taught school at St. Francis elementary school for 33 years. She was a strict educator who took every child’s educatin very seriously. Her “no-nonsense” demeanor is still remembered by her many students. She loved teaching and always wanted the very best for each and every child. Betty had a fighting spirit and a keen sense of humor. Her many friends of all ages will remember her for her wit and love of life. She was a special example of endurance and strength to all who knew her. Please have a cup of teac and celebrate her life! A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, at St. Francis Xavier Church, locted at 4715 N. Central Avenue on Thursday, September 30, 2010. Betty’s final resting place will be with her husband John at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Francis Xavier Elementary School Building Fund at 4715 N Central Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85012 in the name of Betty B. Lynch.
