Maureen Marquez 1

Maureen Rita Marquez passed away at her daughter’s home in Chandler, AZ. Surrounded by her children and grandchildren Sunday evening, June 3rd, 2018, after a trying illness. Maureen was born December 30th, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph & Lucia Caraher, the youngest of four children. From kindergarten to senior graduation in 1955, she attended Academy of Our Lady Catholic School on the South side of Chicago. She went on to earn a Degree in Nursing from Saint Francis Hospital in 1958. She moved west from Chicago to join her sisters Mariam & Pat in Tucson, Arizona where she worked at St. Mary’s Hospital and met her future husband, Dr. Alberto Marquez. On September 2, 1961 they married and went on to have five children. In 1978 they separated and Maureen moved the family to Prescott, Arizona. In 1983 the family moved to Mesa, Arizona. Maureen enjoyed an active prayer life, reading, painting, gardens, good conversation with family and friends. and sharing her faith.
All who knew Maureen experienced her amazing, gentle loving and caring manner. She had the Heart of an innocent child and the courage, strength, and perseverance of a Soldier of Christ. She lived in thought, word, and deed the two commandments Jesus Christ gave us; First, to love God with one’s whole heart, mind, body, & soul, and Second, to Love one’s neighbor as oneself. Maureen is survived by her five children Teresa Limon, John Marquez, Susan (Gonzales) Marquez, Margaret Marquez, & Elizabeth Marquez, her six Grandchildren, Anthony Limon, Joseph Limon, Gabrielle Limon, John Limon, Gabriela (Gonzales Marquez) Thurau, Marielle Marquez Gibbons, and Great Grandchild, Genevieve Thurau & soon to be born John Paul III Thurau.

“The Saints are like the stars, who, in His providence, Christ hides under a seal, lest they appear whenever they wish. Instead, they are always ready to disembark from the quiet of contemplation into the works of mercy at the time
decided upon by God, whenever their heart should hear the word of command.”
– Saint Anthony of Padua

    John,
I am sorry to see that your mom passed away last summer. We spoke on the phone while I was pregnant with Cassie and she answered several questions I had. Her kindness hasn’t been forgotten after all these years. She took time out of her day to help me out. I hope that you and your family are doing well.
