Carol passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Scottsdale Shea Hospital. She was 74 years of age and a resident of Phoenix for the past 35 years. Born in East Chicago, Indiana, Carol was preceded in death by her mother and father, Helen and Louis Yankey. She is survived by her husband Richard, daughter Lauren Martich (Adrian Gonzalez) of Phoenix and son Dr. Elliot Martich (Bianca Garcia Martich) of Flagstaff, in addition to brother Louis Yankey, Jr. (Debbie), sister Laura Yankey Kuntarich (David) and brother Dennis Yankey.
Carol received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Ball State University and a Master of Science degree in Social Work from the University of Chicago. As a career, she spent many years shaping young classroom minds and later comforting patients and families at the end stages of life. She would like to say, however, that the best job she ever had in life was raising her children.
Carol loved animals, particularly German Shepherds. Over the course of her 48-year marriage, they were at her side for 37 years. Mikey, Chuck and Teddy never failed to fill her heart with love and loyalty.
Services were held privately with her immediate family. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Carol’s memory to the Arizona Humane Society (1521 West Dobbins Road, Phoenix, AZ 85041).

Richard, Lauren, Elliot, and families,
I was so so sorry to hear of Carol’s death. I taught with her at ST. Agnes and loved her humor and “quirkiness”. May she rest in God’s eternal peace.
Sincerely,
Cindy Forsberg

Richard, Lauren, Elliot, and family members,
I’m so sorry to hear of Carol’s passing. She was a friend and a valued teacher at St. Agnes School. While at SAS we sure had a lot of fun and interesting conversations. Her wit was unique! Although we’ve lost contact in the last several years, Carol is certainly unforgetable. God bless all of you and may Carol rest in the loving arms of our Savior.
Sincerely, Connie Emminger

Mrs, Martich taught my siblings and me. I always enjoyed her dry humor and unexpected jokes. She regularly shared funny stories about her german shepherd and spoke lovingly about her family. Wishing her family comfort during this time. May she rest in peace.
Karla Keller
I am saddened to hear of Carol’s passing. Our family was a part of the St. Agnes community and she was truly an incredible asset there. She taught one of our children and we think the others definitely missed out when Carol retired. We pray for peace and comfort for all of those who love and will miss her. We especially pray that Carol rest in eternal peace.
