Mildred L. Chidlaw
August 14, 1917 – April 10, 2009
A beloved wife, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep at 3:00 pm, on Good Friday. Mildred was a kind-hearted woman, always thoughtful and generous, touching the lives of all who crossed her path. Admired for her indelible strength, tenacity and sharp wit, she was a supporter of dreams, always there to give encouragement, share stories and impart knowledge. Delicate and tender, she lit the room up with her smile and filled it with joy with her laugh. She cherished friends and family and was the center of ours. She will be deeply missed but we will always honor her by continuing traditions, sharing in her memory and through the prosperous growth of our family. Memorial Service will be held Sunday, April 26, at 10:30 am, at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phx., AZ. 85014.

Dear Linda,Was the documentary caelld With My Back To The World ? It’s the only one that I know of and it is definitely a remarkable portrait of a remarkable woman. I remember stumbling across her book of writings, as well as her painting when I was young and her work made a profound impression on me. To this day this is definitely one of my favorite inspiring reads. I really get the sense that she knew something, that she had a certain quality of presence. Thanks for commenting.

I’d be grateful to know who took the photo of Agnes Martin at the top of this page and if you know who to reach to ask for prsoiesimn to reprint it. Amazing this flurry of activity in the past few days! I’m about to post an incredibly inspiring essay by Miss Martin on my website, some excerpts from which are on your website as well. Thanks in advance for your help.
