Cates, Mildred Louise
87, entered into her Heavenly Father’s arms July 23, 2009. Generosity, a passionate faith and work ethic, commitment to family and a sense of style and grace defined her life. Mildred was a true southern lady born in Savannah, GA but grew up in New Smyrna Beach, FL the second oldest of six children. She met and married Thomas Willard Cates at age 21 to become the model naval aviator’s wife and lived at military bases all over the country. She was a successful real estate salesperson then as a broker formed Millie Cates Realty in Falls Church, VA. She lived in Virginia for 42 years and after her husband passed away moved to Phoenix in 2002 to be with her daughter and two granddaughters. Millie was a favorite among the numerous new friends she made at the Scottsdale Bible Church. She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Dietrich, granddaughters Emily and Christina Dietrich, brothers J.B. and John McGeHee, sister Elizabeth Cowen and eleven nieces and nephews. We will all miss her but our lives have been immeasurably enriched by knowing Millie. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 4:00 PM at the Scottsdale Bible Church Chapel, 7901 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale, AZ 85260. Flowers are welcome as well as donations to Hospice of the Valley’s Sherman Hospice Home located on the Mayo Hospital Campus.
