Serjoe Angel Montenegro, 32, was called home to be with our Lord on September 13, 2021. He was born on March 1, 1989, in Phoenix, AZ, to Gracie Vasquez and Steve Montenegro. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School, in 2008. Serjoe loved to watch movies and sports, especially basketball, and he grew up playing football and baseball. He would watch any sports game that was on, but his favorite teams were the Raiders, Dodgers, and Lakers.
He is the fifth child born out of seven, five girls and two boys. Serjoe was a generous person who created lots of laughter around him. He was very family oriented, helpful, and selfless. It was never a dull moment with him, many memories. Serjoe, you are so loved and missed already. Rest in Heaven.
Serjoe is preceded in death by his sister, Sugar Candice Montenegro. He is survived by his mother: Gracie and father: Steve; his siblings: Anita, Stephanie, Alissia, Steve, and Sierra; along with 8 nephews and 5 nieces.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M., with a Rosary held at 6:30 P.M., on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 11:00 A.M., at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1954 N. 24th Street, Phoenix. Interment will follow immediately at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 2033 N. 48th Street, Phoenix. Condolences may be expressed at www.whitneymurphyfuneralhome.com

I am deeply sorry for this unexpected loss. I know the pain you are experiencing is horrendous and unimaginable. My heart hurts for you and goes out to each and everyone of you. Serjoe was such a good boy growing up as I remember. He was funny, witty, respectful, loving and was the king at making those ramen noodles. ( He told me I was making them wrong so he showed me his way, since then I make them just like he did and Xzavier loves them). I can only imagine that he was just the same amazing loving, witty young man. His smile and memory will live forever in your hearts.

I wish I could come today. You have always been a good hearted individual to me and I wish there was something I could do. Even though we have not kept in touch over the years, from what I’ve seen you have become a strong independent woman. All I can offer you is my friendship as their is no words that can take the pain you and your family are experiencing during this unbearable time. Your child is truly a gift from God and I know Sergio will be looking down on you and your family always with joy. Sergio will always be proud of the strong independent woman his younger sister has grown to be. I lost my second mom, my nana, in 2020 and went through a roller coaster of emotions, nearly costing me my career. What I learned is that living our life the best we can is what our departed family member would have wanted. To continue to live with purpose and zest, just the way God intended us to live.
