93, went peacefully to be with his beloved Joan and God. He was born in Phoenix in 1916 to German immigrant parents. He graduated from Brophy Jesuit High School 1934, and served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946. Before and after the war, Al worked for the Cudahy Meat Packing plant where his father had been employed. Al eventually retired as a Zone Manager for IDS Investments. He and Joan were married nearly 63 years, a treasure which sustained him until his own dying. Al contributed his talents as a welder and handyman to his parish and neighborhood for decades. He and Joan were founding, active members of St. Theresa Catholic Church. After Joan’s death, he continued as a faithful prayer warrior for our armed forces at the Thursday evening Rosary. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Al made friends everywhere he went: so long and many thanks to Lucy, Cindy, Greg, the pharmacy staff at CVS, the Wound Center staff at Az Heart Hosp, Leading the Way group at St. Theresa, the staff at Scottsdale Village Sq, and the staff at Gayle’s Manor East. Mass of the Resurrection is at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 5001 East Thomas Road. Interment immediately after Mass at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery.

I run the Muckenthaler Cultural Center in Fullerton CA. I believe Al was a cousin of our Muckenthalers, descended from another Albert Muckenthaler who came to Anaheim in the 1890s. I’m so sorry to hear of his passing. I would have loved to here about his life and common relatives. If the family is ever in Fullerton look us up. Harold Muckenthaler (87) is still alive and healthy.

My father passed away shortly before Al. Evidently they bonded in a short period of time during which time he shared his love of malted shakes. However he lamented that he wasn’t, able to find a good one. My father mentioned this to me and evidently was able to find a place that had them. This love of good malted brought them together. Even though it was only for a brief period of time it obviously brought joy to my father . Thank you Al and my condolences to his family.
Steve Voita
Al was one of my father, John M Voita’s best friends. My whole life all I ever heard about was what a good man he was. I only wish I could have gotten to know him. Their generation was beyond compare in world history and the deeds they accomplished changed the world for the better. My grandfather, William P Voita, was the business manger for Cudahy meats and must have known Albert as well. To the entire Muckenthaler clan the Voita’s offer condolences and prayers for such a fine man. AMDG
